Selected for renowned international exhibitions

Two works by Mark Dedrie, ‘Sword-billed Hummingbird’ and ‘Grouse’, have spread their wings and will embark on a transatlantic journey in the autumn of 2019. Mark’s work has been included for the first time in the Birds in Art exhibition. He will also be participating in the ‘Art and the Animal’ museum show for the second time.

Birds in Art

Ninety-one artists and 15 master artists are participating in Birds in Art. This annual exhibition, which was first held in 1976, showcases the best contemporary artistic interpretations of birds. The selected artists all show one work. Mark will be exhibiting his ‘Sword-billed Hummingbird’, an artwork with a strong composition. Just look at the line from the bird’s beak in relation to the palm leaf on which it is standing.
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin, which hosts Birds in Art, is an iconic location. It is the most prominent bird museum of the world, with a vast collection and continually changing temporary exhibitions featuring paintings, sculptures and graphic work that celebrate natural avian beauty. Many of the artists who were selected for Birds in Art went on to have successful commercial careers in the United States.

Art and the Animal

The annual Art and the Animal museum show, which will be hosted by the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas this year, has included Mark in their selection for the second time. The American Society of Animal Artists organises this prestigious annual juried show. The exhibition only features the best animal art and it is a great honour for artists to participate in this show. The organisers selected Mark’s bronze of a Scottish ‘Grouse’.
